有这样一个古老的缄语：天下有民勤，民勤无天下。
在这个中国四个沙漠化最严重的地方之一，民勤人纷纷出走，足迹遍及大江南北海内外。也正是这个极度干旱缺水的地方，正逐渐淡出经济发展的蓝图，被大江南北海内外的人们所舍弃。当悲凉的缄语在日月更替中被大漠黄沙一一印证，留下还是离开，已不再是两难的选择。
然而，我们的镜头在距离沙漠仅两百米的煌辉村下巴浪井却发现了这么一间孤岛——马维祥老人一家作为仅存的一户村民，在这里放牧了四十年。随着环境的恶化、植被的减少和掘地三百米才能获得的水源，周围的邻居已纷纷搬迁出这片曾经眷恋的故土。只剩下他们老俩口的执着，但没有土地、没有收入的生活还能持续多久？他究竟会不会被迫放弃最后的坚守？搬迁出去的多数人在新的家园遇到了新的问题，但已没办法再搬回来。留下的少数人仍坚持压沙、植树，阻止沙漠的前移。他们续写着中国千百年来天人合一的精神史诗。也开启了这场交替着挣扎与希望的盛世情殇。
守望者到底能否刷新民勤的历史，扭转缄语的预言呢？

Brief Synopsis：Min Qin – a place extremely lack of water, its East, West and North directions are surrounded by the Deserts of Tengri and Badanjilin. In Huang Hui – the village closed to the desert, villagers take water from 300 meters deeper of underground.. Since some years, the environment changes more and more worsen, the life of villagers if difficult so that they are forced to leave the village so attached of their sentiment and move other regions. Some old men are staying in the village. Even without any land and revenue, they do not want to leave here.
There is a only one home stays in the village of Xiabalangjing which is only 200 meter fat to the desert. Ma Wei Xiang, grazing more than 40 years here, is going to abandon grazing due to reduction of vegetation. However he and his wife grudge leaving the village.
Those left the village meet new problems in new living regions and can not return to the village. Those staying in the village insist to control desertification, plant threes and prevent the desert toward and protect their home so loved.
