Brief Synopsis：In Mexico, many men and women live with the fragility of a precautious existence, hoping that a miracle may change their destiny. But for miracles to occur, one must stand firm in one’s beliefs, despite life’s uncertain outcome. Ex-voto for Three Souls weaves together the stories of three souls that share a deep reliance on faith as they wait for a miracle to unfold. Cristian, a young boxer from a lower income neighborhood in places his every hope in attaining a championship title to make a name for himself within the world of professional boxing. Meanwhile, at a Mexico City hospital, 80 year-old María Teresa, adversely affected by a heart attack she suffered three years earlier, searches deep within herself for enough faith to enlighten doctors so that a surgical procedure will successfully unclog her arteries. Lastly, in a small Mexican coastal village, Luis, a fisherman commended to divine providence, serenely awaits for the food shortage to end and for fish to finally succumb to his net. Guided by faith and hope, Cristian, María Teresa and Luis are portrayed as true fighters who never abandon the dreams that keep them alive. In this way, Ex-voto for Three Souls seeks to reveal the transcendental aim in every person’s existence: the capacity to imagine that destiny can change and that it can even provide new opportunities for its own modification.
